Telect Uses Mix of In-House Development and NComm’s Best of Breed Purchased Technology to Get M13 Mux To Market in Record Time

·         Strategic Use of NComm’s High Quality Code Reduced Cost and Project Time for Telect

Salem, New Hampshire, October 29, 2001 – NComm today announced, that Telect, Inc. used NComm’s DS3 Trunk Management Software to get its MIX56™ M13 multiplexer offering to market in record time.

Rather than developing everything in-house, Telect’s Engineering team identified the areas critical for success and found “off-the-shelf” technology to fill in important standard technologies used as network interfaces. Telect decided to buy best of breed technology to greatly advance their development.

“My primary objective was to get a high quality product to market in the fastest possible time and do it all at a low cost. We did a build or buy analysis and decided on NComm. NComm’s DS3 Trunk Management Software allowed us, cost effectively, to become fully standards compliant on the network with no effort on our part while we focused our internal resources on critical, differentiating features and functionality”, said Jim Vercruyssen, Telect’s Product Marketing Manager.

NComm develops standards-compliant telecom transport functionality, which provides multiple benefits. It cuts the risk, cost, and development time of bringing products to market. Literally within a few days, engineers can be running fully standards-compliant alarms, maintenance, and performance monitoring and signaling.

The NComm Trunk Management Software (TMS) manages standards compliant transport of T1, E1, DS3 and SONET signals. T1 (1.544 Mbps), E1 (2.048 Mbps) and DS3 (44.736 Mbps) transport technologies form the basis for virtually the entire network worldwide today. Telecommunications and data communications technologies like frame relay and ATM are also frequently carried by lower layer T1, E1 or DS3 lines. The requirement for standards compliance ensures that equipment from different manufacturers will be interoperable when used on different ends or segments of the network.

About Telect MIX56™

The Telect MIX56™ integrates two full-featured M13 multiplexers and a 56 Kbps circuit DSX-1 with connectivity to optical or metallic DS3 signals. The MIX56™ is capable of T1 or E1 communication. E1 is the European equivalent of North America’s T1, which is a fundamental building block for the public switched telephone network (PSTN) as well as many packet data services.
